Earthquakes are one of Allah’s great signs that He uses to test His slaves as a reminder, to instill fear in Him, or as a punishment.
When the signs show up, man must remember how weak, helpless, and humble he is in front of Allah and how much he needs Him. Then, he must turn to Allah in prayer, begging, and humility, hoping that Allah will take away this great trouble from the people.
As far as we know, the Sunnah does not mandate the recitation of any specific dhikr or dua in the event of an earthquake. Instead, one should pray (dua) to Allah, asking for His kindness and assistance so that He will turn His wrath away from His people.

Dua For Earthquake Protection
According to Abu Al-Yasar, the Prophet of Allah salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam used to say:
At the time of an earthquake or other disaster, an eclipse, a strong wind, or a flood, you should repent to Allah beseech Him, and ask Him for well-being. You should also think a lot about Him and ask Him for forgiveness, as the Prophet salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said about an eclipse: “When you see that, then remember Allah, call on Him, and ask Him for forgiveness.” All agreed.
It is also mustahabb to show compassion and give charity to the poor and needy, because the Prophet salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “Show mercy, and you will be shown mercy.” [Ahmad] “Those who show mercy will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful,” he said. “Have mercy on those on earth, and the One Who is in heaven will have mercy on you.” [Tirmidhi]. And he said, “Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy,” salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. [al-Bukhari]
